DEDE PRIEST grew up in Dallas, Texas, raised by her hard-working, young mother, who taught her how to live and dream. Instilling in her daughter the importance of a full life of experiences and opportunities, Dede's mother encouraged her to pursue both the challenge of higher education and the passionate fulfillment of music, in all its varieties and colors. Classically trained on the violin from age ten, Dede’s exposure to a wide and diverse cultural foundation has enriched her life and her ability to relate her soul within her music. She loved her violin, but it was always clear that her voice was her first instrument. As a little girl, Dede would sing along to whatever she could find. As she grew older, it was the rawness of Blues and Gospel that shaped her talent the most.
Moving to Austin, Texas to attend the University of Texas, she earned a degree in Philosophy, then followed her heart and let the music lead. In Austin, Texas, a thriving live music haven, Dede began singing professionally. Brandishing vocals rooted in the Texas Blues tradition, Dede Priest has shared the stage with Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Leon Russell, Tommy Shannon (Double Trouble), and Harry Belafonte, among others. Pinned early on as a “Modern Day Blues Queen”, Dede Priest is now gaining wider international recognition for her powerful delivery of a unique style that crosses lines and “turns Blues, Soul, and Jazz inside out”. Performing in the USA, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and Italy, Dede Priest continues to forge ahead with successful shows, radio play, and television appearances, including prestigious events such as Rhythm & Blues Night Oosterpoort - The Netherlands, Belgium Rhythm & Blues - Peer, Simply Blues Viana - Portugal, Trasimeno Blues Festival – Italy, Martin Luther King Keynote – Austin, Texas, to name a few.
2011 opened a new chapter in the musical career of Dede Priest, bringing the release of her new CD, “Kinky At The Root”, an honest and deeply personal portrait, and a long-anticipated follow-up to her previous CD jewel, “Candy Moon” (2007), which received exceptional reviews.

Dede Priest ist aufgewachsen in Dallas/Texas. Im Alter von zehn Jahren lernte sie Violine zu spielen, ihre große Leidenschaft jedoch galt dem Singen. In jungen Jahren war das Zuhause ihre Bühne, auf der sie unentwegt Lieder sang. Einen großen Einfluss übten schon damals der Blues und Gospel auf sie aus. Nachdem sie die Universität in Austin/Texas besuchte und diese erfolgreich mit dem Diplom in Philosophie abgeschlossen hat, widmete sie sich im Anschluss ganz der Musik. Ihre musikalische Karriere ging sie bereits in Austin professionell an und hat sich seitdem als ausdrucksstarke, charismatische Performerin einen überragenden Namen in der Blues- und Soul-Szene erspielt.
Dede Priest spielt heute gleichermaßen erfolgreich in den USA und vielen Ländern Europas. Viele Wochen im Jahr tourt sie durch Clubs und spielt mit ihrer Band auf bedeutenden Blues-Festivals von Belgien bis Italien. Ihre Stimme entstammt der Tradition des Texas-Blues. In ihrer bisherigen Laufbahn teilte sie die Bühne mit Künstlern wie Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Leon Russell, Tommy Shannon (von Stevie Ray Vaughns „Double Trouble"), Harry Belafonte und vielen anderen namhaften Künstlern.
Dede Priests Markenzeichen ist ihre starke und eindringliche Stimme, mit der sie spielend leicht die Grenzen von Blues, Soul und Jazz überschreitet. Sie gehört inzwischen zu den etablierten Größen der neuen Blues-Generation .
